Carol Holden is the Vice Chairman of the Hillsborough County
Board of Commissioners. In 1997 she resigned her position as
Assistant Majority Leader in the NH House of Representatives to
accept a panel of Superior Court Judges’ nomination to the post of
County Commissioner. She has won reelection three times. For six
years (1997-2003), Carol was an officer of the New Hampshire
Association of Counties (NHAC). In addition, she is a member of the
Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties (NACo)
and is Vice President of National Conference of Republican County
Officials (NCRCO).
During Carol’s thirteen years (1984-1997) of service in the NH
House, she chaired the Children, Youth and Juvenile Justice
Committee; and co-chaired the Constitutional and Statutory Revision
Committee. She authored numerous election laws during her tenure in
the House. Her other elected offices include Delegate to the 1984
Constitutional Convention and Amherst School District Moderator
(1990-present).
Commissioner Holden has been active member of the Republican
Party.
Some of the positions she has held are: Area Vice-Chair District
3 State Republican Executive Committee (Nashua, Manchester and the
29 towns); Co-Chair Hillsborough County Bush 2004 Campaign; and
Incorporator, Vice Chair and Program Director Vesta Roy Series
Excellence in Public Service Series. She is a Past President of the
Amherst Area Republican Women’s Club, a Past President of the New
Hampshire Federation of Republican Women and a former Board Member
of the National Federation of Republican Women.
Some of Commissioner Holden’s community activities include
President, NH Partners in Education, Alumnae Association Board of
Directors Trinity College (DC), President, Boston College Club of
NH, Junior League of Boston and Vice President of NH PTA Board of
Directors. Currently she serves on the Board of Trustees of Child
and Family Services and on the Board of Nashua Community Council.
Carol Holden grew up in Needham, MA. She received her B.A. degree
in Political Science from Trinity College (D.C.) and her M.A.T
degree in Political Science from Boston College. She has been a
secondary school teacher, a volunteer coordinator, and a political
office holder. The Commissioner’s hobbies are traveling, sailing,
giving tennis lessons, reading and cross country skiing.
Carol has been married to her husband Don, a computer security
consultant, for forty years. They have four grown children and three
grandsons. Don and Carol are not empty nesters as they have a
Newfoundland dog and a Maine Coon cat.
