Donna SytekDonna Sytek

Donna Sytek is a veteran of New Hampshire politics, having served as Speaker of the House and chairman of the New Hampshire Republican Party.  During 23 years as a state representative from Salem, she chaired several major committees including Judiciary, Ways and Means, and Criminal Justice. She has a continuing interest and involvement in state policy on taxation, corrections, and substance abuse treatment. For over 30 years Speaker Sytek has played an active role in recruiting and training candidates for office, and has been a delegate to four Republican National Conventions.

Since her retirement from the legislature in 2000, Speaker Sytek has been elected to the boards of the New Hampshire Center for Public Policy Studies, the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation, and New Hampshire Catholic Charities. She also served as chairman of the Judicial Conduct Commission and was an incorporator of the Vesta Roy Excellence in Public Service Series.  At the request of the Bishop of Manchester, she chaired the Task Force on Sexual Misconduct Policy to address the clergy sex abuse crisis. Donna’s past board memberships include Leadership New Hampshire, New Futures, NH Public Television, the Salem Boys and Girls Club, and the Salem VNA.

After years of witnessing mangled introductions on the political dinner circuit she wrote Further Ado: Practical Protocol for New Hampshire, published in 2003, and has become a frequent speaker on political etiquette.

Donna’s foreign travels have taken her to South Africa, Zimbabwe, Taiwan, Latvia, and Israel, as well as many European countries. She has five states remaining to achieve her personal goal of visiting all 50 states.

Speaker Sytek is a native of Haverhill, Massachusetts and a graduate of Regis College. During her professional career Donna worked as a medical technologist and as a community relations representative for Seabrook Station. She has been married for 40 years to John, a Latin teacher at Salem High School. Their daughter Mary is a nurse in western Massachusetts.
