Wendy Stanley Jones
Wendy Stanley Jones has been a
political activist on the Seacoast for over 15 years. And, she is
just as proud of her role as a wife, mother, grandmother and pediatric
nurse.
Wendy was drawn to politics in
1991, because of a retirement facility attempting to change her
neighborhoods zoning regulations. Since then, she has served as
an Exeter Selectman – giving her the distinction of being only
the fourth woman elected to this position in the town’s 350 year
history.
Additionally, she has been
elected and appointed to various Rockingham County Republican Committee
positions and Strafford County Republican Committee positions.
She also was elected Exeter Town Republican Chair and was appointed by
Senator John E. Sununu's Exeter Town Chair from his first primary as a
Congressman.
Upon relocating to Durham,
Wendy was determined to remain politically active. She is a member of
President George W. Bush’s Steering Committee for New Hampshire,
Co-Chair of his Strafford County Steering Committee and National Chair
for “W Stands for Women”. She also volunteers for Durham’s Republican
Town Committee.
In 2003, Wendy sensed the
growing need to mentor more women in the political process. As a
result, she co-founded the Vesta Roy Excellence in Public Service
Series. This highly regarded, national program seeks to increase the
number of Republican women elected or appointed to government positions
at the local, state and national levels.
Wendy is a graduate of
Eastern Maine Vocational Technical Institute and the University of
Maine.
Away from politics, she works
per diem as a school nurse and has been involved in Special Education
issues for three decades. She is a certified color consultant, a
member of the Exeter Chapter of the Daughters of the American
Revolution and the Junior League. She is an incorporator for a mission
society and a local church. She enjoys reading, gardening, boating, and
various crafts.
Wendy and her husband Turner
have two grown children – Christopher and Ivey as well as a grandson,
John Turner, whose visits they always look forward to.
